Everything buyers and new users ask about Kill the Fill — trial, license, privacy, timeline export and first-launch troubleshooting. Can't find yours? Reach us via killthefill.app or reply to your purchase e-mail.
Trial, price, activation
Is there a free trial?
Yes — download the app and use it free: unlimited previews (see every proposed cut, listen to it, fine-tune it) and 3 full exports. No account, no card.
What happens when my 3 trial exports are used up?
Previews stay unlimited — you can keep analysing videos and reviewing cuts. Exporting again just needs the $29 lifetime license.
How much does it cost? Is it a subscription?
$29, one time, through Stripe checkout. No subscription, no recurring charges.
How do I get my license key?
Instantly — the key appears on the thank-you page the second you pay, and a copy arrives by e-mail.
How do I activate the license?
Open the app, go to Help → Enter license, and paste your key. That's it.
Can I activate without an internet connection?
Yes — activation works offline, in keeping with the rest of the app.
Do I need to create an account?
No — there is no account, for the trial or after purchase. Your license key is all you need.
How do updates work?
The app has a built-in update check — when a new version is out, it tells you and you grab the new DMG. Current version: 0.2.1.
On-device, offline, Apple Silicon
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No — everything runs on your Mac, built on on-device Whisper speech recognition. Your footage never leaves the machine. No account, no upload, no cloud.
Does it work offline?
Yes — analysis, editing, rendering and even license activation all work with no internet connection.
Which Macs does it run on?
Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer). It's built natively for Apple Silicon.
Is there a Windows or Intel Mac version?
No — Kill the Fill is Apple Silicon macOS only.
Can it detect filler words in Turkish?
Yes — it catches Turkish fillers like eee and ııı as well as English ones like um, uh and er. The app UI itself is available in English and Turkish.
Is there an iPhone or iPad app?
No — Kill the Fill is a Mac app.
What gets cut — and who decides
Will it cut something I wanted to keep?
Only if you let it. Every proposed cut can be previewed, toggled on/off, and boundary-tuned before you render anything. Nothing is baked in until you say so.
What exactly does it remove?
Filler words (um, uh, Turkish eee/ııı and the like), hesitations, and silences/dead air in talking-head video.
The cuts feel too aggressive (or too timid) — can I tune it?
Yes — sensitivity and padding are adjustable. Lower the sensitivity to cut less, raise the padding to leave more breathing room around each cut, and tune individual cut boundaries by hand where needed.
I only want dead air removed, not filler words.
Use silence-only turbo mode — it skips transcription entirely and strips just the silences, which makes it very fast on long videos.
Can I see what was removed?
Yes — the filler report shows what was cut and how many, so you know exactly what left the video.
Hand off to your editor
Can I finish the edit in Final Cut, Premiere or Resolve?
Yes — instead of (or as well as) rendering a finished file, export the approved cut plan as a timeline. Every cut arrives in your editor as separate clips, so you keep the final say over each one.
Which timeline format should I pick?
- Final Cut Pro → FCPXML
- DaVinci Resolve → FCPXML (Resolve imports it as a timeline)
- Premiere Pro → Premiere Pro XML
- Anything else → EDL (CMX3600), the universal fallback that most editors read
My editor imported the timeline but the clips are offline.
Timeline files reference your original video rather than containing it — keep the source file where it was (or point your editor at it when asked to relink) and the clips come back.
Does it generate captions?
Yes — SRT and WebVTT caption files, retimed to the edited video so they stay in sync after the cuts. Upload the SRT/VTT alongside your video (YouTube and most platforms accept them) or import it into your editor.
If something's not working
macOS won't open the app after download.
The DMG is notarized by Apple, so first launch normally just asks for a single confirmation. The clean route:
- Open the DMG and drag Kill the Fill into Applications.
- Launch it from Applications (not from inside the DMG window).
- If macOS asks "downloaded from the internet — open?", click Open.
If it's still blocked: right-click the app and choose Open, or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Still stuck? Reach us via the site.
My license key isn't accepted.
Copy the whole key from the thank-you page or your e-mail (watch for extra spaces at either end), then paste it under Help → Enter license. Activation works offline, so no connection is needed. If it still won't take, reply to your purchase e-mail and we'll sort it out.
I never received my license e-mail.
First check spam — and remember the key was also shown on the Stripe thank-you page right after payment. If you can't find it anywhere, contact us via the site with the e-mail address you used at checkout.
It says I've reached the trial export limit.
That's the trial working as designed: 3 exports, then previews only. Previews remain unlimited; a $29 lifetime license unlocks exporting again.
The rendered video sounds choppy around cuts.
Increase the padding so each cut keeps a little more air around it, or lower the sensitivity so borderline cuts aren't proposed at all. You can also open any individual cut and nudge its boundaries before rendering.
A long video is taking a while to analyse.
If you only need dead air removed, switch to silence-only turbo mode — it skips transcription and is very fast. For filler-word detection the app transcribes the video on-device first, so leave it to finish.
Something else is broken.

Answers here reflect version 0.2.1. The in-app update check will tell you when a newer version is available.
